The GPS 15x is a small, versatile high-sensitivity sensor designed for a variety of OEM applications, including car navigation, wireless communication, marine navigation and mapping. Roughly the size of a commemorative stamp, the GPS 15x weighs approximately 10 grams and works well for applications with limited space.
The GPS 15x has a CMOS level, UART-compatible asynchronous serial port, offers a wider input voltage range than its predecessors. The GPS 15x offers excellent EMI/RFI performance, so you can use it near mobile computing devices and wireless communications equipment without worrying about interference.
The GPS 15x is approximately the size and shape of a commemorative postage stamp (0.940″ wide x 1.690″ long x 0.309″ tall). At 10 grams, it is also very lightweight. It requires a 3.3 V regulated power supply at an average of 80 mA of current.
GPS 15x-W and GPS 15x-F are intended for CMOS level interface to a UART. These GPS receivers offer a wider input voltage range than their predecessors, 3.0Vdc – 3.5Vdc regulated. Input current, 66mA nominal. Also unlike their predecessors, the new GPS 15x-W and GPS 15x-F can be updated with the latest firmware, downloadable from Garmin’s website. These GPS receivers are roughly the size of a postage stamp and are useful in designs where space is limited.
GPS 15xL and GPS 15xH are more fully featured board level products with on-board voltage regulation, fully programmable NMEA 0183 sentence selection, programmable baud rate and true RS-232 drivers.
