To measure an area using the GPS 72, GPS 76, GPSMAP 76, or GPSMAP 76S

Here’s how to measure an area using the handheld Garmin GPS units GPS 72, GPS 76, GPSMAP 76 or GPSMAP 76S.

1. Turn unit on

2. Press ENTER two or three times to get to the Satellite Page

3. Press MENU twice to get to the Main Menu

4. Use rocker switch to move highlighted field down to Tracks

5. Press ENTER

6. Use rocker switch to move across to Clear

7. Press ENTER

8. Use rocker switch to move to Yes (Do you really want to clear the track log?)

9. Press ENTER

10. Move around the area of which you wish to measure the area

11. When you have finished, use the rocker switch to move across to Save on the Tracks page

12. Press ENTER

13. Use the rocker switch to move down to Entire Log

14. Press ENTER

15. The area will be shown in Acres. If you wish to change the area units (sq ft, sq yd, sq m, ac, ha, sq km, sq mi, sq nm are options), use the rocker switch to move up to “ac”, press ENTER, then use the rocker switch to move to the units you require, and press ENTER to select.

16. Use the rocker switch to move to OK to save the track

17. To view the area of a saved track, use the rocker switch to move to the track you wish to select and press ENTER
